So NAMM Hangs its Hat in Tennessee
It’s time to swap the “Live Music Capital of the World” for the “Music City.” NAMM announced it would return to Nashville next year for the summer show from June 20 to 22.
This year’s Summer NAMM drew 12,845 registrants. But although the attendance slumped from last year’s figure of 17,207, there were several positives. The pre-show party at The Hang highlighted Thursday night festivities. The PRS party was a key moment on Friday, and the Fortune “Battle of the Bands” and “Showdown at Stubb’s” drew large crowds on Saturday.
Other highlights included the NAMM University Breakfast Sessions on Friday and Saturday. And of course, there were celebrity guest appearances. Travis Tritt appeared at C.F. Martin’s booth to demonstrate his HDC-40 limited edition guitar. Buddy Miles, the legendary artist was on hand, and Living Colour’s Vernon Reid performed at the John Lennon Bus.

But perhaps most important was the dealers who attended NAMM meant business. Many said they didn’t spring for flights and hotel rooms for nothing. And serious dealers led many manufacturers to say they had a great show. “American DJ (ADJ) opened eight new dealers the first day, plus ADJ and American Audio did a brisk business writing orders for current customers throughout the show,” said Scott Davies, general manager of the American DJ group.
Added EMG President Rob Turner: “I’ll come to any NAMM show. At this one, we’re meeting key customers and can actually spend quality time with them.”
Said Rick Carlson, Piano Wizard’s MI division manager: “For a video game product like ours that actually has music educational value, a show like this allows buyers the time to discover how we can help them lure kids away from mindless video games and back into making music.”
