The Terrific 36
36 Companies are ‘Dealer Friendly’
[September 2007 - Page 3]

Hal Leonard

“We always try to service everybody the same, big or small. We make sure the sell-through on every product is excellent. When we hire a salesperson, they are trained for two weeks. During that time, all they do is learn from other salespeople. Every Monday morning, we have a sales meeting. On those Monday morning sales meetings, we have salespeople ‘sell’ different products to the rest of the sales staff. They really prepare, and then get critiqued, in a positive manner, afterward. It’s that training of our personnel that’s a major component to our success.”
—Keith Mardak, Hal Leonard

Harris Teller

“It’s a tremendous honor to be on the list. This recognizes what the main focus has always been, which is to be the wholesaler to all music retailers. We strongly believe in the music industry. Since we were founded in 1967, we have always tried to provide excellent customer service, carry the best product selection, have the best depth in product inventory, and have an extremely fast turnaround. We want to be the retailers’ ‘warehouse.’
—Jon Harris, Harris Teller

Hohner

“Hohner Inc. believes in creating and nurturing win-win partnerships with its dealer base and we’ve proved it by creating the ‘Power Dealer’ program which guarantees stock balancing, price protection, aggressive freight programs, attainable quarterly rebates, and strong enforcement of MAP, while providing healthy profit margins for every single one of our dealers. We recognize we will not prosper if our dealers don’t prosper and therefore, we do not act in ways that are harmful to our dealers. Hohner Inc. is committed to making this long-term partnership work.”
—Scott Emmerman, Hohner

Kahler

“We are excited to be a part of the environment musicstoreowners.com has created.  Kahler values very highly what an independent does for their local markets and strives to mimic those very same values in the way we conduct our own business. The independent goes beyond just brick and mortar by providing service before, during, and after the sale. An independent understands and appreciates the value a customer holds above and beyond the dollar amount they spend. The independent provides quality and reliability.”
—Josh Vittek, Kahler

Musicorp MBT
“Musicorp is honored to receive recognition as a dealer-friendly brand on musicstoreowners.com. For over 27 years, Musicorp has been a full-service provider with the widest selection of products, most competitive pricing, exceptional customer service, and efficient distribution. Musicorp consistently strives to serve the independent music retailer each and every day by providing the best service and products in the industry.”
—Dan Mahoney, Musicorp MBT

Pintech USA Drums
“At Pintech USA we focus on our small independent retail stores more than the big chains as they tend to be more customer oriented and tend to take more time to pay close attention to customer service. We have found that with huge companies customers often fall through the cracks or are made to wait extended times while their order is shuffled around and sometimes lost. Another very important key is that we answer our phones. Our customers don’t have to sit on the phone for five minutes or more pushing buttons and routing through choices to speak to someone alive.
The small independent stores tend to take the time to ask questions and find out about our products so they can be more knowledgeable when informing their customers.”
—Dan Gilbert, Pintech USA Drums

Quantum Audio
“All of us at Quantum Audio Designs are flattered that we have been recognized as an ‘independent dealer-friendly’ vendor by the Music Store Owners membership. Since our company’s inception, our goal has been to provide our dealers the best sounding products possible, in a timely fashion, at price points that allow them to be profitable on a long-term basis.”
—Mike Torbet, Quantum Audio Designs

RainSong Guitars
“RainSong is thrilled and honored to be chosen by Musicstoreowners.com as one of the most independent friendly companies. Very early on we realized the critical roll independent MI stores played as primary influencers in this endeavor. We set out to develop strong and mutually beneficial relationships with independent dealers by adopting policies that made it easy to become, stay, and succeed as a RainSong Dealer. This recognition from Musicstoreowners.com indicates that we are on the right track. I would like to thank Musicstoreowners.com for including RainSong on this list and hope to continue building and fostering strong relationships with independent stores.”
—Ashvin Coomar, Rainsong Graphite Guitars

Samick Guitars
“In 2000, I came to Samick after 15 years of working with Samick and their products at previous guitar companies. All of us do this because it is what we know and what we enjoy. This is part of the music business and we aimed to keep ‘music’ and ‘business’ from becoming an oxymoron like ‘jumbo shrimp.’…[Dealers mention three things to us]: 1. Have a large line to fill any guitar product type up to $1,200. 2. No big box stores, no chains, no Internet nightmares. Our distribution channel is independent MI dealers only. 3. Our one-price policy allows a dealer the comfort or knowing the real market price of any model. There are no discounts on Tuesdays and a free lunch if there is a full moon. We don’t play games with prices.
In addition, we offer a Music Educator Program, a regional artist program for dealers to endorse local players, and a strong commitment to good service.”
—John Hawkins, Samick Music Corp.

Ventura Guitars
“It is such a pleasure to see Ventura Guitars listed by the Music Store Owners Group on their MSO ‘Approved Brands’ listing. For the past six years we have specialized in the independent music store being our only customer. Our objective has always been to provide a quality product which can be sold at pricing that is recognized as a very good value for the consumer, while allowing the store owner a very nice and well deserved profit. It is so good to see our efforts recognized, and we are very grateful to MSO for this recognition.”
