spyCoverstoryI was thrilled to get an assignment in the historic city of Savannah GA. I was feeling on top of the world to know I was going to a city known for its southern cooking and moss-draped trees, and for Forrest Gump sitting on a bench below those trees spouting his philosophy that “life is like a box of chocolates.”

I figured I would take in some of the history and a good meal, and even get my spy assignment done. Little did I know that this was not going to be easy and I would end up thrown off the spy trail. The assignment was completed, however. I drove through McDonald’s for my “southern hamburger” and never got to see the city, the history or the bench where Forrest once sat with his chocolates.

My mission—delivered from The Chief with his typical urgency bordering on near panic—was to gather information on handheld microphones. My first stop was very pleasant, located on a tree-lined Savannah street. As I walked into the store, I mused on what was sure to be a great experience walking around Georgia.
