2011 Strings For Food A Big Success

It was with great joy that the Independent Music Store Owners (iMSO) announced the Strings for Food 2011 results. With the help of its sponsors, D’Addario, Curt Mangan Strings, Planet Waves, and SIT, iMSO collected food for food banks across the U.S. And this was the best year so far! iMSO members nationwide changed 1,573 sets of strings and collected 11,772 pounds of food. Every November, iMSO members open their doors and offer to change strings for free for all customers who donate canned goods. Each store owner chooses a food bank or charity within his or her community to which all food is donated.

Jim Nardi, Owner of Uptown Music in Keizer OR, changed 160 sets of strings. The staff of WaterMelon Music in Davis CA—Jeff Simons, Owner—changed 154 sets of strings. Discount Music of Jacksonville—Clark and Lisa Kirkwood, Owners—collected the most food, with a total of 1,500 pounds. With generous donations from the sponsors, iMSO was able to reach out to its members’ communities and make a positive difference.
