Richard Ellis, Founder of Ellis Music (Behel VT) passed away this September at the age of 91. Visit NAMM’s Library page for an interview with Ellis c. 2010.
Ellis leaves behind a profound legacy as a musician, teacher and retailer. As a teenager, Richard was in a travelling band that catered to Swing Era dances, while still a student at South Royalton High School. Later in life, he taught music and directed the local community band. Richard’s retail career began in 1946, working out of his home prior to building Ellis Music, which is currently run by three of his four children.
